In 1994 Silvio held the position of Technical Director, with the following
responsibilities: supervising, representing, and setting goals and directions
for the technical staff; advising and interacting with visitors, workshop
organizers, educators, etc.; writing mathematical documents.
Background
Silvio was born in 1959 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He received an M.A. in
mathematics from IMPA (Instituto de Matemática Pura e
Aplicada), in Rio, and received a Ph.D. in mathematics from
Princeton University in
1985.
In 1988 he became half the staff of the nascent Geometry Supercomputer
Project, which later grew into the Geometry Center, and he has been with
the Center since.
Silvio's chief professional goal is to further the communication of
mathematics, by both traditional and novel means.
