If machines can compute answers, what do students need to learn?Her dissertation research involved looking at the effect of different programming environments on the learning of a given computer language. Much of her work since then has involved looking at the effect of different computing environments (e.g., computer assisted instruction, intelligent tutoring systems, various computer algebra systems and visualization tools) on students' learning of mathematics.
