Vertex Star:

The star of a vertex of a polyhedral surface is the union of all the faces and edges that contain the vertex.

The boundary of the vertex star is called the link of the vertex.

A vertex star is the canonical neighborhood of a vertex of a polyhedral surface. Any smaller neighborhood looks essentially like the star, since a polyhedral surface is mapped linearly into space.
