Vibrating Minimal Surface by Jeremy Ackerman

Several steps in the vibration of a minimal surface, in which a catenoid collapses during dynamic simulation. Each point on the surface was given a velocity to the right, while the rings remained fixed: a)the initial surface, b) surface shifts to the right, c) surface shifts to the left, d) surface returns to center, e) neck narrows, and f) neck closes and surface separates into two disks which continue vibrating. This is Figure 3 in Ackerman's Summer Institute report, 1993.

How to make it: This simulation created using Ken Brakke's evolver, modified to allow inertia.
