Mathematical Packages
The software listed below as "polished" is mostly
available for distribution and comes with
documentation. The "diamonds in the rough" are installed locally, but
are typically not supported, have little or no documentation, and may
have bugs.
Polished Software
- AlgCurve -- An interactive application for
plotting implicitly defined curves (NeXT).
- CRSolver -- An interactive application for
exploring conformal mappings (NeXT).
- Devaney's Chaos Lab -- A sequence of units
introducing concepts from dynamical systems (Mac)
- kaleido -- A program for computing kaleidoscopic
construction of uniform polyhedra (unix, SGI)
- Kaleidotile -- In interactive application for
experimenting with sphere tessellations (Mac).
- Kali -- An interactive application for
experimenting with symmetry groups (Mac,
SGI).
- Linktool -- A program for producing nicely
rendered images of links. (NeXT).
- link_edit -- a link
editor and renderer for X Windows.
- QuasiTiler -- An interactive application for
experimenting with quasi-periodic tilings (NeXT, Mac).
- scatter2graph -- A program for describing a
surface by randomly sampling a function. Surface can be viewed with
Geomview (unix).
- SphereDraw -- An applications for
playing with spherical geometry (NeXT).
- StringBean -- A program for graphically entering links
in Snappea format. (NeXT).
- TesselManis -- An interactive application for
creating escher-like tessellations of the plane (Mac).
- qhull -- Qhull is a program
which computes convex hulls, voronoi vertices, Delaunay triangulation s
and halfspace intersection in any number of dimensions (unix, Mac).
Diamonds in the Rough
- BrusselSprouts -- BrusselSprouts draws hyperbolic
manifolds and computes cusp data. It would qualify as polished, except
for the fact that it appears to be only partial ly installed. (NeXT)
- CriticalDimension -- A slick but specialized demo
illustrating how energy in a grid of springs depends on
dimension. (NeXT)
- Groups -- Multiplication tables for finite groups
up to order 20, showing their centers, etc. (NeXT)
- Henon -- This program iterates area preserving
Henon mappings and plot orbits. (NeXT)
- ODE -- An interactive application for
visualizing flows of ODEs. (NeXT)
- PDE -- An interactive application for
visualizing flows of PDEs. (NeXT)
- PlaneToShpere -- A program that illustrates
bubbling off singularities in harmonic heat flows.
- RubikAlgebra -- This demo displays group
theoretic information about Rubik's cube as the user manipulates it on
screen. (NeXT)
- Spring -- A virtual spring laboratory, with
graphics and theoretical background. (NeXT)
