Orrery (or-rery), n. [Charles Boyle - 1731 4th Earl of Orrery] an apparatus showing the relative positions and motions of bodies in the solar system by balls moved by wheelwork.
The Orrery is a program that works in conjunction with Geomview to display and animate an accurate model of the solar system. It displays all the planets, most of their moons, and a few comets, and lets you specify the (earth) date and time at which you want to see the configuration. It will animate the motions of the bodies at a rate that you specify, either forwards or backwards in time.
The Orrery was written by Geometry Center staff member Stuart Levy.
