What's New in 1996:
This document lists changes and additions to the Geometry
Center World-Wide Web pages in 1996.
December 10, 1996
- Version 1.6.1 of
Geomview is
now available! Geomview is an interactive 3D geometry viewing program.
October 8, 1996
- Two new exhibits are now online in the Java Gallery of Interactive
Geometry. The exhibits were prepared in large part by participants in
the Geometry Centers 1996 Summer
Institute working in collaboration with Robert Devaney's Dynamical Systems
and Technology Project at Boston University. The new exhibits
are:
- Leap Fractal is a java version of
the "chaos game" where players move around a fractal game board using
linear transformations.
- IFSoft is a collection of programs
for creating and animating fractals. The fractals are described as
the attractors of iterated function systems.
September 19, 1996
- A compilation of Tesselation
Resources is available. The listings include both software and
references to books, articles, sources of tiling graphics.
September 18, 1996
- A Java version of Kali has been added to
the Java Gallery of Interactive Geometry. Kali is a program for
experimenting with symmetry, allowing the user to draw pictures and
patterns that exhibit any of the possible "wall paper group"
symmetries. Kali has been available through the Center for the
Macintosh and as an interactive web application for some time. The
new Java version allows users on Windows computers use Kali too.
August 2, 1996
- New web-based course materials are available for the
Technology in the Geometry Classroom being
taught at the Geometry Center through the University of Minnesota.
The course is designed for pre- and in-service
high-school geometry teachers, and introduces them to a range of
technologies (e.g., software tools, videos, and WWW-based lessons).
Participants experience learning as their own students will. Course
projects enable them to develop ways to use these tools in their own
classes.
April 5, 1996
- Check out some of the Java applets that we've
been working on. These include:
April 2, 1996
February 9, 1996
- A new Mathematica package for SGIs called
mathpad is available in our
software library. This program
allows Iris Mathematica users to generate interactive graphics.
January 17, 1996
- We are offering a new course in
communicating mathematics with
hypertext in early June, 1996. The course is designed
specifically to help you learn to present mathematics using the unique
hypertext features of the world-wide web.
