General Information

I am currently a junior at Hendrix College, where I am double-majoring in mathematics and biology. After I graduate from Hendrix, I am planning on attending graduate school in some area of biology like genetics or microibology.

I spend the past summer at the Summer 95 Institute at the Geometry Center in Minneapolis, MN. This is a summer program for 20 students of mathematics and computer science. At the Center, I worked on the Modelling Team with Fati Liamidi under the supervision of Dr. Rick Wicklin. Our project was to model physical phenomena using differential equations. Specifically, we examined the oscillatory behavior of cantilevered beams, and the static deformation of cantilevered, simply supported, and doubly supported beams.

Hobbies and interests:

Some of my hobbies include

• Reading - I am a big Douglas Adams fan, and love all British comedy such as Monty Python.
• Going to the theatre - I love Broadway musicals and attend them whenever I can. Some of my favorites are West Side Story, The Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon (which I actually saw on Broadway!), Into the Woods, Les Miserables, Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Evita, Crazy for You, Jesus Christ Superstar, A Chorusline, Fiddler on the Roof, etc. . .
• Gymnastics - I competed under the United States Gymnastics Federation for seven years, and now I am a Level 4 - 7 judge.
• Raising snakes - I have seven pet snakes and occasionally do some "snakesitting" for friends. My two adult black ratsnakes are named Richard and Spiro (I always name black ratsnakes after Republicans). I also have a baby ratsnake named Mitchel, two baby corn snakes named Saffron and Cinnamon, and two garter snakes who are currently nameless (suggestions, anyone?).
