When we talk about ``the point with coordinates (x,y,z)'' or ``the surface with equation f(x,y,z)'', we will always have in mind cartesian coordinates. If a formula involves another type of coordinates, this will be stated explicitly.
Please refer to Section 1.1 for information on substitutions and transformations relevant also to the three-dimensional case.
